What would you do if you went to Wal-Mart and your food stamp card had NO limit? It may seem like a fantasy for some, but according to news station KSLA, it was a real life situation for hundreds of people in Springhill and Mansfield, Louisiana. Wal-mart staff alerted local police due to the overwhelming number of people clearing their shelves.
From 7 to 9 pm, food stamp card balances were limitless and in turn, the store was flooded with customers filling their carts. Police Chief Will Lynd confirms that the Wal-mart corporate office spokesperson advised the Wal-mart stores to, “let the people use the cards anyway.”
At 9pm when the cards began to work properly and this information was announced on the loud speaker, a number of people simply left their filled carts in the aisles and went home. Despite the filled carts that were left, a customer remarked, “Just about everything was gone. I’ve never seen it in that condition.”
This situation leaves customers and tax payers with the looming question, “Who will pay for this shopping spree?” It also leaves real life individuals with the question, “What would you do if this happened to you?”
