From my Car to the Stage: A Look into the Life of Comedian Mic Larry | When I think of Comedian and Community Servant, Mic Larry, I think of the comedian that had Judge Mathis laughing at his own impersonation.
However, that is only one facet of this talented comic. Mic Larry was a gifted athlete in basketball and football but found himself unable to walk for 6 months after being smashed between two cars in an accident.
Don’t pull out the violins for Mic Larry just yet. There is a silver lining to this cloud, for when a job at Home Depot found him always making others laugh, a friend recommended this funny man try a comedy showcase. Mic Larry got a standing ovation that night and he’s never looked back. He’s opened for greats like Paul Mooney, Cedric the Entertainer, and Mike Epps.
However, the road to success was not an easy one for the single father of two. After his divorce left him a full time dad, Mic Larry rose to the occasion and even slept in his car at one point. The comedian recalled taking showers at the local recreation center before finally finding his footing. He shares a laugh as he describes the origin of his “I left my kids in the car” skit. It came natural he says, they were really outside in the car.
Mic Larry is an active participant in his community and hosts the annual Laughter and Food for the Soul Comedy Show. “Everybody can’t afford to go to a comedy show,” he says. As a result he shares his gift during this free Christmas Holiday event. “We just feed them and make them feel good.”
Shout out to the amazing comic for living his dreams despite the challenges. That’s Mafietta.
