Choosing the proper shampoo isn’t as simple as picking the prettiest or even most expensive bottle off the shelf. Understanding the difference in shampoo options and picking the one that works best for your hair texture will promote healthy hair and limit bad hair days.

This week Stylist, TeTe Little of JC Penny Salon in Albemarle, North Carolina gives us some tips on selecting the right shampoo.

Find a Shampoo That Works For Your Hair

Every shampoo isn’t for everyone. It is important to find a shampoo that will work for your hair. Your hair texture and desired result should determine the product you select. For example, if your hair is dry, a hydrating/moisturizing shampoo is best.

How Do I Tell If It’s Working

After about 6 weeks of using a product regularly, evaluate it. Do you notice a change in your hair texture or can see that your hair is thinning? If so, you should switch shampoos because this is evidence that that particular product is not for you.

On the other hand, if you notice the return of your hair’s normal healthiness, you have chosen your shampoo correctly.
